About the Firm
The Geller Firm, Inc. is a family law practice founded in 2021, with offices in Walnut Creek and San Francisco. We represent clients in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Solano counties in divorce, custody and visitation, child and spousal support, property division, and domestic violence restraining order matters.
The Role
We are hiring a full-time attorney to work on site in our Walnut Creek office. We welcome newly admitted attorneys, attorneys moving into family law from another practice area, and experienced family law attorneys. You will work directly with Michael Geller, who will mentor and train you. Your responsibilities, including court appearances and trial work, will grow as you gain experience.
Your work will include:
- Advising clients on strategy, options, and likely outcomes
- Drafting requests for orders, declarations, pleadings, discovery, and settlement agreements
- Reviewing financial disclosures and evidence on support, property, and custody issues
- Negotiating settlements and representing clients at mediations and settlement conferences
- Preparing exhibits, witness examinations, and trial briefs, and appearing at hearings and trials
- Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, and the court, managing deadlines, and recording time accurately
Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Dropbox, and Adobe products
- Reliable transportation to court appearances throughout the Bay Area
- Sound judgment, attention to detail, and reliable follow-through
- Interest in family law and the ability to work steadily with clients during a hard period in their lives
Preferred
- Family law experience, including work with Judicial Council forms, financial disclosures, and requests for orders
- Courtroom experience, including hearings, evidentiary hearings, or trials
- Experience running guideline support calculations with XSpouse
- Familiarity with e-filing and local rules in Bay Area family courts
- Experience with MyCase
- Fluency in Spanish or another language spoken by Bay Area clients
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary of $130,000 to $200,000, depending on experience and qualifications
- Billable hour expectation of 1,300 hours per year
- Discretionary annual bonus, which considers individual productivity
- Two weeks (10 days) of paid vacation per year, plus paid sick leave and paid holidays
